How to install a CCTV system

As well as this section there is a lot of useful information contained within our Video Tutorials section.

Can you arrange CCTV installation for us ?

Yes, we do offer CCTV system installation. Please see our dedicated installation service page. Having said that because we do all the technical bits such as installing the hard drives in the DVR recorder before we deliver the equipment to you installation is quite straight forward. By doing it yourself or having a local handy person install it for you you will save a considerable amount of money.

Do you offer help and advice ?

Absolutely. Whether you are interested in self installation or having us install for you we pride ourselves in giving helpful advice either on the phone or via email. We can even use modern technology to remotely view the basic layout of your site if necessary to help us better understand your needs.

Can you help me connect my CCTV system to the internet or my local network ?

One thing that is a bit tricky is setting up remote viewing of your CCTV system  via the internet but we offer a remote access set up service whereby we can do this for you for just £49.95 over the telephone and by screen sharing on your computer. Our technician remotely accesses your computer and sets up everything on your internet router whilst you watch on in amazement.

What tools do I need to install CCTV myself ?

It depends where you are fitting the cameras but usually just a drill a cross head screwdriver and a small flat head screwdriver, the same tools you`d use to fit a coat hook on the wall. Any allen keys or specialist tools are included with the cameras. All our camera to DVR cables come complete with connectors.

How do I know where to fit the CCTV cameras ?

We have included a series of short videos covering where to locate your cameras in our Video Tutorials section. These give you simple hints and things to think about when positioning your cameras.

I`m a little bit unsure as to which lens option I should go for on my CCTV cameras .

We include actual screen shots from all the cameras in their description but really you only know exactly what you need once the camera is installed on site. For that reason we recommend a zoom lens and the wider the range the better. That way you can zoom in or out to fill the screen with your subject. It also means that if you later decide to move  camera to a new position you can re-adjust the zoom lens to suit it's new location.

Fitting CCTV cameras outside

When ever fitting cameras outside we recommend you enclose the connections in one of our weather proof connector enclosures. They aren`t expensive and prevent water ingress into either the DC power or BNC video connection, a common cause of failure in CCTV installations.

If a camera is going to be used outside make sure it`s suitable for outdoor use, it will tell you just above the price in the cameras for sale section.
