This camera is suitable for applications which require number plate filming at night only. If you need to record number plate during the day as well then purchase the
ANPR2 9-22mm camera . The 9-22mm lens will record number plates up to a distance of 15 metres. The ANPR2 6-60mm camera will record plates up to a distance of 50 metres during the day and at night.
The ability to capture a vehicle's number plates is something of a holy grail in CCTV Systems. Most of the people we speak to want to be able to capture these details somewhere in their system.
The problem with filming UK number plates stems from their highly reflective design. During the day providing your CCTV camera is fitted with the right lens (which most aren't), then filming a numberplate so it's details can later be read off the footage shouldn't be a problem. It is at night when the problems arise.
The infra red lighting fitted to most cameras causes the numberplate to bleach out. Even if the I/R illumination is disabled the reflective surface of the plate will still make it much brighter than the rest of the screen and so it will bleach out making it unreadable. Add to the mix vehicle headlights shining into a camera and you can see that finding a solution isn't easy.
Many ANPR cameras on the market cost well in excess of £1,000 but we have devised a solution for a fraction of that amount. We have also managed to find a solution which still functions as a colour camera during the daytime.
Based around a high definition CCD and chipset our solution uses a fixed electronic shutter that can be adjusted to "tune it" to your particular application. The Infra red brightness is also adjustable to suit your particular application.
The Cadmium light sensor which allows the camera to switch from day to night time operation is moved from the front to the rear of the camera body so as not get confused by headlights.
The end result is a camera which records a vehicle's number plate at night. It's worth pointing out that in common with all ANPR cameras only the number plate will be recorded, the rest of the image will be quite dark. This is different to our normal cameras which will produce a clear overall night time image at the expense of the number plate which will bleach out.
The camera has a full on screen set up menu accessed via buttons under the camera body for fine tuning and custom set up. There is also a plug in video fly lead which allows a set up monitor to be used for positioning the camera even when hidden cables are used exiting the rear of the camera.
This camera is designed to film number plates up to around 15 metres from the camera mounting position.
The camera is IP66 rated.
