When we speak to the police one of the things we hear quite a lot is the need for audio on CCTV footage, especially in domestic applications. Traditionally CCTV systems don't have audio but what the Police are telling us is that with domestic disputes there is often no physical assault taking place but verbal abuse and obviously the camera can't pick this up.
You can buy cameras with built in audio but that isn't the ideal solution. If you've ever seen a film or TV programme being made you'll have seen people with microphones on the end of long poles trying to get the mike as close as possible to the people talking, (occasionally you'll see one pop into the top of the screen shot!!). This is because microphones work best when close to the thing they are trying to record. Too far away and they pick up all the background noise as well.
This Microphone can be used to capture audio on your CCTV system and is designed to be fitted as close as possible to where you think the people will be talking. Typically under a porch or door canopy would be ideal to cover the front of a property as an example. The unit is not weatherproof so if fitted outside is needs to go in a sheltered location.
The microphone features an adjustable gain which allows you to "turn the mike up or down" to best suit your particular application and avoid distortion. It runs from a 12 volt feed and can be installed using our 4 core PIR / RS485 cable. The microphone is supplied complete with a screw terminal phono plug which plugs into our DVR recorders and a screw in DC socket which takes power from any of our 12 volt power supplies.
