This is a really great way to transmit the output video from a cctv camera to the DVR recorder, particularly if longer distances are involved. These passive baluns are capable of sending a clear video signal distances of up to 300 metres depending on the cable used.
Extremely simple to use 1 of the baluns attaches to the BNC plug on the video camera, the other to the BNC camera input connection on the DVR recorder. 1 of the twisted pairs on the cat5 cables then attaches to the baluns using a screw terminal.
Using this method up to 4 camera signals can be carried using a single cat5 cable. The other alternative is to combine the remaining 3 pairs of wires and use them to carry the 12 volt DC power supply to the camera using our
DC Screw Plugs and
DC Screw Sockets (although for the best possible results if using powerful infra-red cameras and / or transmitting over long distances power the camera locally).
When using cat5 cable for this purpose were commend the use of pure copper cable rather than cheaper CCA (copper clad aluminium) cable. As well as better conductivity it is also more resilient.
The screw DC plug and screw DC socket are not included in the Balun kit but are available separately in our
cable accessory section
