ANPR CCTV Cameras
Capturing vehicle number plates on CCTV is a requirement in a lot of CCTV Systems and something we get asked for regularly. During daylight hours it's a fairly simple task providing the camera has a powerful enough telephoto lens so you can fill enough of the screen with the plate thus allowing it to be retrieved from pre-recorded footage.
The problem comes at night when the highly reflective number plates bleach out when filmed, (one of the reasons you usually see foreign white rather than reflective number plates used in example photos). The solution is to concentrate on the number plate rather than the image surrounding it. Infra-red illumination is often used but this has the disadvantage of only giving black and white images during daylight hours, (all cameras film black and white at night).
Traditionally ANPR or Automotive number plate recognition, cameras have been very expensive, typically over £1,000 per unit. We have worked with our camera manufacturers to come up with a workable solution for a fraction of that amount.
